ThE aRT
The majority of my paintings start off as 3"x3" drawings on Post-it note paper. In making the conversion to canvas or panel, I decided early on to try and retain the feeling of the original drawings as much as possible.
I experimented with different methods and continue to try new ways of reproducing those original drawings with a variety of paints, inks, digital imaging and three dimensional items.
The Distractions
My current influences are numerous but I admire artists that can create powerful images with minimal effort. Artists like Frank Auerbach, Giacometti and Francis Bacon are just a few that stand out as great visionaries to me.
My artwork often leans toward the dark & demented but I try to inject a sense of humor whenever possible.
I never subscribed to the concept of an artist having to develop a "signature style" and that is why my artwork covers a range of interpretations. In the art world that is known as "a lack of focus" but I'd rather experiment with different ideas than adhere to just one.
My other great influence is music. As with my art, I prefer music that departs from the mainstream. I had a short stint as a DJ in the early 80's when New Wave music was the alternative. I still have a soft spot for that era as well as the old progressives but I prefer to keep searching for interesting music that breaks new ground.
It's difficult to pinpoint what motivates much of my art. I think everything I've come in contact with over the years eventually makes it's way into the work that I do. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need information about purchasing any of the pieces for sale.
